Track record

A record of building technical capability into strategic enterprise value.

Two companies transitioned to strategic acquirers; a technical record spanning microfabrication, RF and microwave systems, manufacturing, and current institutional development. Public sources and self-reported experience are distinguished below.

Prior strategic transition · September 2002

Haleos → Rohm and Haas Electronic Materials

The business was founded in 1996 as ACT MicroDevices, later named Haleos. It developed microfabricated optoelectronic components and wafer-level packaging technology in Blacksburg, Virginia.

In September 2002, Rohm and Haas acquired the technology, equipment, intellectual property, and remaining workforce of Haleos, Inc., as recorded in the acquirer’s Form 10-Q. This is an asset-and-team transition, not a claim that Haleos merged into the acquirer.

David’s company-building work connected specialized microfabrication, intellectual-property development, and technology transfer into a larger industrial organization.

The 1996 year is corroborated by an SEC-filed third-party biography; the ACT MicroDevices → Haleos name lineage is documented in Microwave Journal. No exact incorporation or renaming date is asserted.

Prior strategic transition · 2019

Nuvotronics → Cubic Corporation

Nuvotronics was established in June 2008 and acquired the Rohm and Haas Microfabrication business in Blacksburg, Virginia in July 2008, as reported by Microwave Journal that September.

The company commercialized PolyStrata® three-dimensional microfabrication for RF and microwave components. The technology’s earlier DARPA-funded development is distinct from the independent company’s 2008 formation.

Cubic announced its acquisition of Nuvotronics on March 14, 2019. The announcement is the public transaction reference; transaction values and investment returns are not presented on this site.

In its June 2, 2026 release, Nuvotronics described itself as a division of Cubic and announced PolyStrata-based RF and mmWave products for IMS 2026, manufactured at its Durham, North Carolina facility. That release documents continued commercial use of the process in 2026.

Company formation, management buyout, and acquisition completion are distinct events. The acquisition announcement is not a complete corporate history.

Evidence and diligence

Public records. Clear boundaries.

Transaction records, inventor searches, and career or company statements answer different questions. A source supports only the facts it actually documents; a patent is not proof of commercial adoption, and a historical award is not proof of an active program.

1996–2026

30 Years building hard technology

Thirty years from the documented 1996 company formation to 2026. EMCORE’s 2024 proxy biography gives the founding year for the Haleos business; Microwave Journal identifies David as founder and president of ACT MicroDevices, later named Haleos. This does not establish an exact incorporation day or a career start before 1996.

Public transaction records

2 Strategic transitions

The two strategic transitions have different structures: Rohm and Haas acquired Haleos technology, equipment, intellectual property, and remaining workforce in September 2002; Cubic announced its acquisition of Nuvotronics on March 14, 2019. The Haleos transaction is not characterized here as a merger or whole-company stock acquisition.

Self-reported total

125+ Issued patents worldwide

The 125+ worldwide issued-patent total is self-reported, not an independently reconciled count. “Worldwide issued patents” refers to granted national or regional patents across jurisdictions, not pending applications or a count of invention families. Multiple grants from one family may contribute separately. Inventor-name search totals can mix applications, grants, related families, and identity matches; they neither confirm nor disprove this total.

Published performance periods

Active Federally funded programs

Public award records reviewed September 6, 2026 list MacroVation Navy and Marine Corps work with performance periods extending into 2027 and 2028, including Marine Corps Systems Command SBIR Phase II award M6785425C6515 and NAVSEA award N0002426C3021. Performance periods and administrative status can change; information beyond the public award record is not published here.

Available in appropriate diligence. Detailed customer and program scope, technical data, transaction values, investment returns, revenue, assets under management, and non-public contractual information are not published here. Disclosure requires authorization and an appropriate controlled process.
Intellectual property

Intellectual property and technical record.

The IP and technical record provides inventor discovery routes, explains the reported patent total, and separates patent records from operating and commercial claims.
